Membrane filters of high purity nitrocellulose are the classical transfer medium for binding proteins and nucleic acids. The range of application includes Southern, Northern and Western blotting as well as colony, plaque transfer and dot blotting. Although the binding mechanism is not understood in all details, it is assumed that the macromolecules are bound via hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonding. porablot NCP membranes consist of 100% nitrocellulose and are supplied with a pore size of 0.45 μm. With a binding capacity of 100 μg/cm2 this membrane is well suited for protein blotting. The hydrophilic character of this membrane ensures good contact with the gel during botting. Additionally, nitrocellulose can be easily blocked, e.g. with casein or albumin. Due to the low background, all conventional detection methods, such as antigen/antibody, autoradiography, biotin labelling and chemiluminescence, yield good results.
